Jose Rizal - 150th Birth Anniversary

Today is the Philippine's national hero's - Dr. Jose Rizal - sesquicentennial birth anniversary

Jose Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda was a Doctor, a novelist, a polyglot among other attributes and achievements. More than that he was a martyr for Philippine independence from Spain, a national hero and treasure of his beloved country.

He was a proponent of freedom and self-government by peaceful means through institutional reforms rather than by violent revolution. Although José Rizal did admit he will become partial to 'violent means' only as a last resort.[9] Rizal believed that the only justification for national liberation and self-government is the restoration of the dignity of the people; for as he said "...why independence, if the slaves of today will be the tyrants of tomorrow?".

- Wikipedia

Today's tyrants are those corrupt government officials who only look after their own gain to the detriment of the common good and general welfare of the Filipino people.

Happy Birth Anniversary, Dr. Rizal. I hope I get to live to see another "you" and the dawn of Philippine independence from poverty and moral bankruptcy.
